Tool Tips: 5 Evernote Features That I Love

evernoteI have found through experiment that Evernote is one great application that helps me organize all of my online activities. In a nutshell, Evernote allows me to capture, organize, and find information that I usually bookmark in my browser. I have always had a hard time trying to remember to use my bookmarks, and when I do I usually cannot find what I am looking for.

Another really cool feature about Evernote is how it synchrinuzes all of my information automatically at a specified time across all of my computers. It can even be synchronized across all platforms, including PC’s, Mac’s and even mobile devices if you are an internet mobile user.

Below I have listed five great things that I enjoy about Evernote:

1. Capture anything, anywhere: If I want to capture an email, there is an app that I can use from within Outlook that allows me to post directly to Evernote, simply by highlighting the email link and clicking on the app.

In addition, anything I see on my computer screen I can clip using another app on my browser. A window opens up where I can add a category, a note about the webpage or capture, and send it directly to my Evernote.

2. Categorize everything: With Evernote I can categorize my information with Tags (tags are similar to categories), that I have established. I can create as many tags as I want and then as I change my mind where I want to store things, I can just drag and drop the correct tags to any note that I have created.

3. Clip any content: I can clip or capture any content of any application that is viewable on my computer screen. This can include information from applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe PDF’s, etc. To add the content to Evernote, simply highlight any portion of a document you want to clip, right click on the Evernote (elephant) in your task bar and follow the directions.

4. Email information: When I signed up for my account, I was provided my own email address. With this email address, I can email my content directly into my account with little effort. This is really slick!

5. Find information quickly:  Evernote provides several nice ways to find notes. I can do this by selecting a notebook and a specific tag that I have defined and look down the list until I find what I am searching for.  In addition I can search for text or filter on selected attributes to find my notes.

As a general user, Evernote is free up to 40mb per month.  That is a lot of memory for me at this time. I can upgrade to the pro version at a minimal fee if I need more storage space.

The bottom-line, I really love Evernote, as it is really a great way to collect my thoughts without pen and paper. The Evernote site has some great training that provides much more details than I have covered here. This is just a taste of some of the things that you can utilize Evernote for. There are a lot more!

Do you use Evernote? What do you like about it?

I've never used Evernote, but I hear a lot of people talking about it. You've convinced me that I need to give it a whirl, as organization is not my strong spot! Thanks for this.
